Day 3 – Champion

Through dewy eyes she sees him so clearly
An image of virtue, exceptional in its time
The fires that are lit, the bells that chime
Are his and her doings, cavalierly

The broiling afflictions under surfaces polished
Defects by her grossly undetected
Recoil from beaming pride because she’s protected
The demons he should’ve abolished

Good intentions have paved her matronly way
Dressed him strong and brave for the fight
But the dirges he sings in the cover of night
Go unheard for the cheers of the day

And anything she’d given, all she ever had
Could not now alleviate his duress
For from his scales he cannot undress
His heart, his hugs are iron-clad
