Day 9 – A Few More Years in the Pot

I never saw much sense
in the dark,
never felt like struggling
more than I had to
under pressure.

I never thought a lid
was what a soul needed,
to fester and boil
in self-discipline.

I’ll never believe
in that wallowing stuff
and I’ll never understand
why a man thinks he deserves
to be alone.

But maybe some people
need to be contained
so they don’t break out
before they break out.

Maybe that day they’ll earn
more freedom than most
for a few more years
in the pot.
