Day 270 – Shade

For down,
down where drowsy shepherds lay
in the cool recluse of the willow’s sway
beneath the city’s shadow-play
is the place where time will wait

For one,
one of the babes who sleep
in peppered fields of grazing sheep
to waken with the sun and weep
to find he’s disappeared

For shade,
shade has stood him still
to slumber under green until
he’ll rise up of his own free will,
accepting what he is

For time,
time has but to wait
for any man, to set him straight,
to push him gently to his fate
from sleep, from still, from shade
