Day 348 – If I Am A Dogwood

If I am a dogwood,
if my leaves are petaled glory,
if I bloom in lush countries,
I’m rare.

But no, if I can get sick of dogwoods
like cheesecake, like beach air,
like I’m not rare,
then I’m not rare.

If I am a dogwood
I’d rather not see dogwoods
if they will fall away;
I’d hope to be some other
mysterious thing I won’t see,
won’t see until I’m dead.
