Year 2: Day 12 – Subscription

It takes us a long time to realize
we’re not customers;
the boxes that show up on our doorsteps,
we never ordered.

But I still think sometimes
that my prayers get lost in the mail.

And I still get caught up
in waiting impatiently
by the phone.

I try to send back some of the things I get,
publications I never subscribed to,

but I think God is a magazine subscription-

I still think sometimes I can manage
all this paperwork,
that I can return unwanted parcels
and pay for expedited shipping,

but it’s true that certain magazines
just subscribe themselves to you.

Don’t forget to check out my first anthology, Candy Pizza: Poetry that’s Fun and Healthy, available on Amazon & Kindle.
