Year 2: Day 45 – Talons

Did you forget
how much trouble it was
to be one,
lovingly ripping
each other
apart?

Clinging without
any reason to believe
that it would ever
not end
in shreds?

Withdraw your talons,
don’t go stickin’, girl,
don’t stop here-
there’s a reason
you were moving.

There’s nothing for you
beneath shoulder blades,
you got miles of rocks
to sharpen,

and even if you’ve only got
the loneliest flight,
would you mount
to a beam
that won’t last?
