Year 2: Day 48 – Go

It’s not that I want to leave
six boxes of donated granola bars
and license plate renewal forms-
all that will still be here
when I get back-
kids that can’t do long division
and two chess games left to play,
paper clips hanging from the ceiling
and snow in the library-
I sortof love it anyway,
but it just can’t be always.

I have to be a different kind of beast sometimes
or it’s all useless.
We all have to go
or we’re not
really here
and that’s too many of us

Maybe I’ll bring something back.
