Year 2: Day 60 – All The Peach Trees

In the garden at the end
we will walk
and count the peach trees
and see the purpose
for them all,

every half-grown shoot and
dead root formation and
untended, forgotten shrub
a story of struggle,
of what we made grow
with us,

and every garden path
abruptly ended before brambles
and plots of fertile soil left unturned
and deep holes crawling with worms,
each its place made apparent

and all the peach trees we raised up
earn back their safety,
become favorable once more
and be useful in their way
from what our amateur hands had somehow caused
and will not pain our hearts to remember.

In the garden at the end
we will walk
over our creation
and know the purpose
for it all
and count the peach trees
we forgot.
