Year 2: Day 77 – You Were Not Here

I’d not expect the medicine cabinet
to be rearranged when I get home,
and just the same,
you were not here.

I’ve never really looked to be sure the trees
outside the window are always the same,
but just the same,
you were not here.

I don’t suspect anyone of following me around
or keeping tabs on where I go;
the thought never even occurred
that you could move
like a knick-knack the cleaning lady
forgot to put back
but yesterday you were not here

and today I find you suddenly
in a place you’ve never been
and I swear on my soul
I don’t know how you got in.
