Year 2: Day 116 – Little Hearts

Little hearts that don’t speak
and speak defensively
and speak with gum-shut stuck
cemented brittle words-
who tells us we’re anything wrong?

Little hearts who insist
that they are not sad
and can justify loneliness
a million ways-
how is it one of us ever
turns around?

How do we know we’ve got friends
if we cannot see that?

Little hearts that walk in straight lines
full speed after midnight,
drive with the windows down
and see the sadness in every
roomful of celebration-

what if we were to live like this forever?

  1. Little hearts will one day find everything pure and wonderful for them. Little hearts may not have to justify lonliness forever, little hearts will definitely see happiness one day in a room of celebration. Have a good one. tc
